Each member of the THRiVE Discovery Lab is an individual, bringing unique perspectives, skills, experiences, beliefs, backgrounds and values. Each individual represents a unique thread that, combined, forms the fabric of our team. This fabric overlays our research program and all that we do, allowing us to conduct open, rich and impactful research that will improve the wellbeing of families and children.

At the THRiVE Lab, we believe it is not enough for us to do "interesting science". For our work to be impactful, it has to make a real-life difference that supports the needs and wellbeing of our research participants. To achieve this, we include diverse stakeholders, patient partners, communities and peers in our research. We believe it is vital to engage these partners in developing our research questions, setting priorities, designing studies and disseminating our findings to make a lasting difference.
"Adopting an inclusive environment means that we will discuss some difficult topics; they may be uncomfortable, we won’t all have the same perspectives, we won’t have all of the answers, we won’t find all of the solutions. All of this is okay! It also means we will be starting the conversation; we will learn from one another, we will gain understanding and respect for team members and as a team we will be forging a path towards inclusion that extends globally beyond our lab to collaborators and stakeholders."

OUR PHILOSOPHY

"THRiVE Discovery Lab" means more than a physical location. It is a collaborative environment, in which members are valued not only on an individual basis, but as true members of our team. We believe in providing a safe space for all - fostering respect, communication, diversity, learning, and discovery. We believe in supporting scientific and professional development and strive for excellence in all that we do.

This word cloud was created from a survey we distributed to our lab members in 2020. We asked them to describe the culture of our lab in 3 words, and this is the result!
